Well my little blog, you were lost for a while but never forgotten. Summer took over, and with it, my desire to sit inside and look at a computer screen - no matter how hipster the cafe or how large my glass of wine. So, although summer is still going strong (yay!), I have a rare Saturday night to myself. With a nice cold glass of beer (thanks Phil), a kitty by my side, and a comfy new set of patio furniture, I can feel those writer wheels starting to slowly turn again in my brain. Oh, and it helps that I am back to school and love finding ways to procrastinate. Oops!
I know that teaching people about environmental issues can sometimes come across as preachy and pushy (utter silliness, but alas), so instead of me sit here and tell you just how bad the state of the oceans is, I will let others do it for me. There is just so much to say - very little of it good. For pete's sake everyone, put your garbage and recycling where it goes! And nevermind making sure your cigarette butts end up in the proper place, just QUIT SMOKING altogether. Don't get me started on that one... I know that most of my readers (all 3 of them) don't smoke (right on friends!), but I just had to add that in, in case some random internet surfer happens upon my lovely blog.
And now, without further ado, here are some links, infographics, and even a terrifyingly real video for you to feast your eyes, ears, and eager brains on. Sometimes people say that you learn one new thing every day. I hope today, this is your new thing, or things, or enough things that you don't need to learn anything new for a whole month.
The ocean is my soul sister, so treat her kindly!

And the photo that first caught my attention years ago. This poor gal swam into a plastic ring as a baby, and was forced to grow around it. According to the video posted below, her name is Mae West and she is still alive (or at least was in August 2013).

And with that my friends, I will finish this post. Please think before you buy something wrapped in plastic. Bring a reusable bag! Think about Mae West and her family before you toss your trash at the seashore. And remember the wise words of the wise Dr. Seuss:
"Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not."
